This expedition is inspired by Homer's Odyssey
The Odyssey is one of the oldest epics in Western literature, that tells the story of Odysseus (Ulysses according to Roman myths) and his adventurous ten year journey back to his kingdom Ithaca, after the end of the Trojan War. The Odyssea expedition is expected to be adventurous, even if not ten-year long, or nearly as intense as that faced by Odysseus.
ODYSSEA is an expedition that takes one boatman around the coast of India ... on a journey lasting about four months!
India is the country with the largest peninsula compared to any other country in the world, encompassing more than 2 million square kilometres. Other countries might have a longer coastline, but the peninsula that defines the coast of India extends longer than any other country in the world ... more than 7,500 kilometres. And this peninsula is surrounded by three mighty seas - the Arabian Sea to the West, the Indian Ocean to the South and the Bay of Bengal to the East.
Paddling from Koteshwar in Gujarat to Kolkata in West Bengal, the target is to travel about 50 to 60 km every day, on open seas, unsupported on the water, and no film crew. One boatman, OTA Survival School Course Director Chandan Lahiri will make the journey.
The journey over upwards of 7.000km and will take him across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Daman, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal. And along with it different peoples, different cultures, different food, dress and languages. Every night will be spent on a different beach experiencing different peoples and cultures.
