Welcome to this Level 1 Course on British English Pronunciation. English is a funny language and anyone who has tried to learn it will testify to this fact. Even native English speakers have trouble learning the language and it is not surprising that anyone who is trying to learn the language and is not from a native English speaking background, will have much more difficulty. English is not a phonetic language. How a word is written and how it is pronounced do not seem to have any commonality. Take “Pacific Ocean”, for instance. the letter “c” appears three times and is pronounced in three different ways. Not an ideal way to learn a language by merely looking at how it is written. In this Level 1 Course, you will learn to pronounce some common English the English way, the way it was meant to be pronounced. You will learn about accents and pronunciation. You will learn the International Phonetic Alphabet and be able to pronounce any word correctly … even if you do know what it really means. Do not get overwhelmed, this is a tried and tested way to learn to pronounce words of the English language.
